About

Ninah Hofmann, L.Ac.

Ninah’s compassionate and empathetic manner help guide her approach to treatment. She believes the powerful effect acupuncture has on our body and nervous system is one of the best tools we have to deeply connect us to our body’s innate healing capacity.

Ninah's Story

Ninah has been practicing acupuncture in San Francisco since 2005. She is a California and NCCAOM licensed acupuncturist, graduating from Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine College, Berkeley, in 2004 with a Master of Science degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine. As a child Ninah foraged wild herbs, reading about their healing properties in herbal medicine books from the 60’s and 70’s. When first introduced to Chinese medicine at 17, she felt an immediate connection to its philosophy, a philosophy, which weaves our body’s health into the macrocosm of nature. This approach to health takes into account our relationship with the natural world, something from which we have been cut off within the context of Allopathic medicine.

Aware of the vast disparities in accessible health care, Ninah opened Community Acupuncture Works (CAW) in July 2008, which served the Calle 24 Latino Cultural District of San Francisco and beyond. During the 12 years of operating and practicing in her busy high volume community acupuncture clinic Ninah gained immense experience in treating a varied and diverse group of patients with a wide range of health conditions.

In 2015 Ninah worked as an acupuncturist on a UCSF Osher Center study “Group Acupuncture for Painful Diabetic Neuropathy”

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7247034/ which took place at her clinic, CAW.

In 2019 Ninah co-created a continuing education class on the role of acupuncture in regulating the nervous system as a way to help manage autoimmunity and chronic pain.

Ninah’s compassionate and empathetic manner help guide her approach to treatment. She believes the powerful effect acupuncture has on our body and nervous system is one of the best tools we have to deeply connect us to our body’s innate healing capacity.

The Covid-19 pandemic forced the closure of Community Acupuncture Works in June 2020. Ninah is now offering acupuncture home visits and in office acupuncture at Five Pins Project on Guerrero St.

Ninah enjoys being outdoors, walking solo and with friends, thrifting, flea markets, garage sales and estate sales as well as, reading, listening to music, cooking and spending time with family, friends and her beloved cats, Maeve and Hattie.
